Biography
Jost Michaels, born on February 25, 1922, in Hamburg, Germany, was a clarinetist, music educator, pianist, and conductor. He began his musical education under his mother Ilse Fromm-Michaels focusing on piano and music theory before transitioning to clarinet. At age 20, he became the first clarinetist in the Göttingen Municipal Orchestra. Post-World War II, Jost Michaels served as solo clarinetist for the symphony orchestra of the North West German Radio in Hamburg from 1945 to 1950. From 1949 until his retirement in 1984, he taught at the North West German Academy of Music in Detmold. Jost Michaels authored two significant works on the clarinet and passed away on June 21, 2004.
