Ruth Ruth was formed in Newâ¯Yorkâ¯City in 1993 by bassist and lead vocalist Chris Kennedy, guitarist Mike Lustig, and drummer Daveâ¯Snyder. The trio first attracted attention playing free sets at the Continental nightclub, which led to a contract with American Recordings and the release of their debut album Laughing Gallery in 1995, featuring the single "Uninvited" that received alternative radio play and limited MTV rotation. After touring with Everclear and Noâ¯Doubt, the band left American Recordings and issued the 45âsingle "Brainiac" on Deepâ¯Elm Records in 1996, followed by the EP Littleâ¯Death on Epitaph Records; during this period Snyder departed and was replaced by Christian Nakata. Their next major release, Areâ¯Youâ¯Myâ¯Friend?, appeared in 1998 on RCA Records, with the track "Kaboom" and a song that later appeared in the film Urbanâ¯Legend. In 2000 the group rebranded as UltraâV and released Bringâ¯onâ¯theâ¯Fuego, a stylistic departure that saw bassist Maggie Kim join for select shows. Ruthâ¯Ruth reunited in 2004 for Rightâ¯Aboutâ¯Now on Flamingâ¯Peach Records and performed a few shows before disbanding again; a live recording, Liveâ¯inâ¯Toronto, was issued in 2009. The band reformed in 2016 with drummer Johnnyâ¯Powers and continued to perform in the Newâ¯Yorkâ¯City area, with their song "Jerome" featured in the 2022 film Bloodâ¯Relatives.
