Biography
Roy Bailey was an English folk singer and sociologist who was born in 1935. He achieved professional recognition as a member of the folk supergroup the Three City Four before releasing his eponymous debut solo studio album, Roy Bailey (1971). Bailey is famous for his work in children's music and for his radical political songs, often collaborating with the musician Leon Rosselson. His discography includes the children's album Oats & Beans & Kangaroos (1968) and the award-winning recording Gentle Men (1997). In 2003, he and Tony Benn received the award for Best Live Act at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for their program Writing on the Wall. For his services to music, he was appointed MBE in 2000, though he returned the insignia in 2006 as a political protest. He died in 2018.
