Biography
Rosa Zaragoza Lluch (born March 23, 1958) is a Spanish folk and world music singer and ethnomusicologist from Barcelona. She began her recording career in 1984 with the album Canciones sefardÃs. In 1986, Zaragoza released Cants de noces dels jueus catalans, a collection of 15th-century Judeo-Catalan songs recovered from manuscripts found in Jerusalem. This project led to international performances across Europe, Israel, and the United States. Her work focuses on the traditions of the Iberian Peninsula, specifically Jewish, Muslim, and Christian music. This research resulted in the albums Canciones de judÃos, cristianos y musulmanes (1992) and El espÃritu de Al-Andalus (1994), the latter of which received the Gerald Brenan Prize in 1995. In 2005, her album Nacer, renacer was endorsed by UNICEF. Zaragoza directed the International Festivals of Mystical Music in Barcelona (2000â2001) and Valencia (2001). Her discography includes the 1989 album Les Nenes bones van al cel, les dolentes a tot arreu.
