Biography
While not strictly speaking a country music heavyweight, guitarist and songwriter Rodney Crowell (born in Crosby, Texas, on August 7, 1950) is a well-known figure in the genre. His early career was marked by his time with Emmylou Harrisâs Hot Band from 1975 to 1977, for whom he continued to write regularly thereafter. He married Rosanne Cash in 1979; the couple divorced in 1991 but reunited from time to time. His solo career, which began in 1978 with the album Ainât Living Long Like This, continued alongside his collaborations. In 1989, he received his only Grammy Award for the song âAfter All This Timeâ from the album *Diamonds & Dirt* (1988). The singer-songwriter reunited with Emmylou Harris for the duet albums *Old Yellow Moon* (2013) and The Traveling Kind (2015), then recorded the acoustic albums Close Ties (2017), dedicated to his own repertoire, and Acoustic Classics (2018). In 2019, Crowell received the Poetâs Award from the Academy of Country Music and released the album Texas that same year, followed by Triage in 2021, The Chicago Sessions in 2023, and Airline Highway in 2025. The latter features contributions from Lukas Nelson, Charlie Starr, Tyler Bryant, Ashley McBryde, Lukas Nelson, and Larkin Poe. The following year saw the release of *Then Again*, recorded twenty years earlier, featuring Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett, and Emmylou Harris.
