Biography

Jan Gerrit Bob Arend Leverman, known professionally as Robert Long, was born on October 22, 1943, in Utrecht, Netherlands, and was a Dutch singer and songwriter. From the early 1970s, Long performed as a solo artist. His musical style moved between pop, chanson and cabaret songs. Long wrote most of his own lyrics, which were critical of Dutch society. Long's best-known early albums include Vroeger of later (1974), which marked the start of his Dutch recording career. This was followed by Levenslang (1977). In the 1980s, Long released further studio albums such as Homo Sapiens (1980) and Dag kleine jongen (1984). Long's well-known singles include "Iedereen doet 't" (1986). In the last years before his death, compilations and reissues of his works appeared. He died on December 13, 2006, in Antwerp, Belgium.
