Rim Banna was a Palestinian singer born on December 8, 1966, in Nazareth. She studied music at the Higher Music Conservatory in Moscow and began her career in the early 1990s by recording modern interpretations of traditional Palestinian children's songs. Her debut album Jafra was released in 1985. In 2003, Banna participated on the CD Lullabies from the Axis of Evil, which boosted her popularity in Europe. She performed live across the West Bank and Gaza through webcasts, as well as in Syria, Tunisia, Beirut, and Oslo. Her album The Mirrors of My Soul (2005) blended Western pop with Middle Eastern modal and vocal structures. Banna passed away in Nazareth on March 24, 2018, following a nine-year battle with breast cancer.
