Biography
Richard Marigny Jones, born in Donaldville, Louisiana, was an American musician known for his contributions to jazz and blues. He started playing various instruments at home and transitioned to piano after performing with brass bands. By the early 1920s he moved to Chicago and began recording as a soloist and with bands such as The Jazz Wizards. He released notable songs including "Trouble In Mind" (1926) with Louis Armstrong on cornet. Jones worked as an A&R for Decca from 1934 until his death in 1945, collaborating with artists like Lee Collins and Herschel Evans. His final recordings were made in 1944 with his band featuring Preston Jackson and Baby Dodds. Posthumously, his work has been compiled into various albums, including Richard M. Jones Vol. 1 (1923-1927) released in 2005.
