Rhys Meirion, a Welsh opera and classical tenor singer, was born on February 24, 1966 in Denbighshire, Wales. He initially pursued education as his career path, graduating from Trinity College, Carmarthen with a Bachelor of Education and working as a primary school teacher before transitioning to music. In 1997, Meirion left teaching to study opera at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. His breakthrough came when he joined the English National Opera in 1999 through the Jerwood Young Singers program. From 2001 to 2004, he served as a company principal, performing leading tenor roles such as Rodolfo in La Boheme and Pinkerton in Madam Butterfly. Meirion made his Australian debut with the West Australian Opera in 2002 and his European debut at Oper Frankfurt. His album Benedictus, featuring bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, was nominated for a Classical Brit Award in 2006.
