Biography

Barry White was a Grammy Award-winning male vocalist, famed for his deep bass voice, and romantic soul songs. Although growing up heavily involved in music, White didn't release his first single, I'm Gonna Love You Just A Bit More Baby, until 1973. It debuted straight in at Number 1 on the R&B singles chart. Previously to this, White had worked for numerous record labels and had enjoyed some success as a songwriter since the early 1960s. However, the release of this single propelled him into the limelight and further singles over the next few years, such as Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe and What Am I Gonna Do With You, cemented his place within the music industry as a stunning male vocalist and leader of the emerging disco genre. After forming his own label in 1979, White struggled to make any further impact upon the charts until he signed with record label A&M in 1987, achieving another Number 1 in the R&B charts with Practise What You Preach in 1994. He died in 2003 having suffered from renal related illnesses for several years.
