Rascalz, a Canadian hip-hop group from Vancouver, British Columbia, formed in 1989 by Red1 (MC), Misfit (MC), and Kemo (DJ). The group released their independent album Really Livin' in 1992 under the name Ragga Muffin Rascals, which was reworked and released by Sony Music Canada in 1993. Both versions received Juno Award nominations for Best Rap Recording. In 1997, they moved to BMG Canada to record Cash Crop. The album's nomination for Best Rap Recording at the Juno Awards of 1998 sparked controversy when Rascalz declined the award due to its scheduling during an untelevised ceremony. This led to the rap category being moved to the main ceremony the following year. In 1998, Rascalz released "Northern Touch", which became the first Canadian hip-hop hit since 1991 and won a Juno Award in 1999. The group's subsequent albums include Global Warning (1999) and Reloaded (2002).
