Raffi Cavoukian, born July 8, 1948 in Cairo, Egypt, is an Armenian-Canadian singer-lyricist whose career began in Toronto folk coffee houses. After a 1974 nursery-school performance, he recorded the childrenâs albums Good Luck Boy (1975) and Singable Songs for the Very Young (1976), followed by the adult-contemporary release Adult Entertainment (1977). His 1980 album Baby Beluga reached widespread acclaim, featuring the popular title track âBaby Belugaâ, and the 1994 album Bananaphone produced the enduring title track âBananaphoneâ. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Raffi released a steady stream of childrenâs albums, which include Rise and Shine (1982) and Everything Grows (1987), while touring Canada and the United States. He founded Troubadour Music Inc. and released the album Let's Play (2002) after a seven-year gap in publishing. His honors include the Order of Canada in 1983, the Order of British Columbia in 2001, and the Fred Rogers Integrity Award in 2006. In 2024, he collaborated with the Canadian trio The Good Lovelies on the album Penny Penguin.
