Biography
Qntal is a German music project that combines medieval music with electro influences, founded in 1991 by Deine Lakaien musician Ernstâ¯Horn and Michaelâ¯Popp, with Estampie vocalist Sigrid âSyrahââ¯Hausen joining soon after. The trio debuted with Qntal I (1992) on Chromâ¯Records, blending medieval lyricism with avantâgarde electronics, followed by Qntal II (1995). After Hornâs departure in 1999, Popp and Hausen continued as a full band, releasing Qntal III â Tristan und Isolde (2003), Qntal IV â Ozymandias (2005), Qntal V â Silver Swan (2006), Qntal VI â Translucida (2008), VII (2014), VIII â Nachtblume (2018), and IX â Time Stands Still (2022). Notable singles include "O, Tristan" and "Nihil", and they recorded a live DVD at the WaveâGotikâTreffen performance. The group has toured, supported Deine Lakaien, and performed at festivals, maintaining a presence in the medievalâelectronic scene.
