Biography

Pyeng Dubra Threadgill, born November 14, 1977 in Manhattan, New York City, is an American singer. Her father, Henry Threadgill, is a bandleader and composer, while her mother, Christina Jones, is a dancer and choreographer. Threadgill began her music career with a recording contract in 2004, releasing her debut album Sweet Home: Pyeng Threadgill Sings Robert Johnson via Random Chance Records. The album featured covers of 11 songs by Robert Johnson, each set to different musical genres. In 2005, she released her second album, Of the Air, which included a cover of "Close to Me" by The Cure and was followed by a European tour. Threadgill has performed at various festivals including the Fillmore Jazz Festival's Ellis Street stage, Montreal Jazz Festival, Detroit Institute of The Arts, and Sun Side Jazz Club in Paris.
