Biography
Protomartyr is an American post-punk band from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 2010. The group's lineup includes vocalist Joe Casey, guitarist Greg Ahee, drummer Alex Leonard, and bassist Scott Davidson. The group emerged from the previous duo of Ahee and Leonard, Butt Babies, and released its debut studio album, No Passion All Technique, on Urinal Cake Records in 2012. That same year, the band released the single âColpi Proibitiâ through X! Records. Subsequent albums released on the Hardly Art and Domino Records labels include Under Color of Official Right (2014), The Agent Intellect (2015), Relatives in Descent (2017), Ultimate Success Today (2020), and Formal Growth in the Desert (2023). The band also issued the EP Consolation (2018) and the live album Pin Eyes Under The Alder (2025). Their singles include âBlues Festivalâ (2015), a split release with R. Ring, and âDope Cloudâ (2015). Musician Kelley Deal joined the band in 2020 as a touring member, providing keyboards, guitar, and backing vocals.
