Poison Girls, an English anarcho-punk band, was formed in Brighton in 1975. The band initially comprised of Vi Subversa (Frances Sokolov) on vocals and guitar, Richard Famous on guitar and vocals, Lance DâBoyle (Gary Lance Robins) on drums, Nil on bass and electric violin, and Bernhardt Rebours on bass and keyboards. Initially formed for a theater performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Poison Girls continued as a band amidst the rising punk movement. Their first EP, Hex, was released in 1979 via Xntrix Records. The band's debut album, Chappaquiddick Bridge, was produced by Penny Rimbaud of Crass and released on Crass Records in 1980. Notable releases include the concept album Whereâs the Pleasure (1982) and their final studio album, Songs of Praise (1985). Poison Girls were known for their anarchist and feminist themes. The band disbanded in 1989 after a performance at the University of Zagreb. Vi Subversa passed away on February 19, 2016, followed by Lance DâBoyle on January 16, 2017.
