Biography

Pilar "Pilita" Garrido Corrales, born on August 22, 1937 in Lahug, Cebu City, Philippines, was a singer and actress. She began her music career in Australia in 1958 with appearances on television shows such as From Outer Space and recordings including "Come Closer to Me". Corrales returned to the Philippines in 1963, where she recorded her hit single "A Million Thanks to You" and hosted a radio program. Her album releases include For Love's Sake Only (1971), Pilita in Tokyo (1972), and Filipiniana (1972). She won the Best Performer award at the Tokyo Music Festival in 1972. Corrales' notable songs include "Kapantay ay Langit" and "Maalaala Mo Kaya". Her career spanned six decades, with 135 albums recorded in English, Filipino, Spanish, and Cebuano. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) for introducing Filipino musical artistry globally.
