Biography

Multi-award-winning French-Canadian singer-songwriter Pierre Lapointe was born in Alma, Quebec, on May 23, 1981. After winning several first prizes in songwriting competitions, he released his acclaimed debut album of the same name in 2004. His success continued with La Forêt des Mal-Aimés, his first #1 album, in 2007. After an award-winning TV show in which he performed his repertoire with the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, he continued to collect Félix de la chanson awards with Sentiments Humains in 2009, again in a register somewhere between pop-rock and electro, followed by the live recording Seul au Piano in 2011. 2013 sees the release of the album Punkt , which also reaches number one in Canada, followed by the mini-album Les Callas. The tour that followed received another award in 2014, when Paris Tristesse (No. 9) was released, recorded in the French capital and aimed at European audiences, featuring new versions of his songs and covers by Barbara, Léo Ferré and Charles Aznavour. Although 2015 was an artistic hiatus, it was nonetheless an important year, with the Prix Félix for the most successful Quebec artist outside Quebec. Returning in 2017 with La Science du Cœur, which again reached No. 1, Pierre Lapointe releases an award-winning Intégrale de ses chansons and collaborates with Les Beaux Sans-Cœur for Ton Corps Est Déjà Froid (2018). In 2019, Pour Déjouer l'Ennui is produced by Albin de la Simone and features a duet with Clara Luciani. Chansons Hivernales follows in 2020, then L'Heure Mauve in 2022, on the return of the Covid-19 pandemic. After hosting the ADISQ gala, he works on his new album and tours Quebec again, before releasing Dix Chansons Démodées Pour Ceux Qui Ont le Cœur Abimê in early 2025.
