Biography
Piero De Palma was born on August 31, 1925, in Molfetta, Apulia, Italy, and was an Italian opera singer with a tenor voice. He began his career as a chorus singer in the early 1940s and made his solo debut in 1945 at the Teatro Grattacielo in Genoa, singing Beppo in I Pagliacci. De Palma's breakthrough came in 1948 when he started working as a radio singer for RAI. He debuted at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in 1952 and performed regularly there until 1980, participating in several premieres. In 1958, he debuted at La Scala in Milan as Minister Pong in Turandot, a role he performed over 200 times throughout his career. De Palma sang at major opera houses worldwide, including the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival. His repertoire included roles such as Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro and Cassio in Otello. He passed away on April 5, 2013.
