Biography

Phil Roy, born February 28, 1959, in Philadelphia, was an American singer and songwriter. He began playing guitar at age nine and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston at age 17. In 1981, he moved to Los Angeles, where he was discovered by Ted Templeman on Sunset Boulevard. Phil Roy initially struggled with two unsuccessful rock bands before transitioning into songwriting. Over fifteen years, he collaborated with notable artists such as Ray Charles and Joe Cocker. He released his debut solo album, Grouchyfriendly, in 2000 on his own Ear Pictures label, which won him The 2nd Annual Independent Music Awards for best Folk/Singer-Songwriter Song with "Melt". Phil Roy followed this with Issues + Options in 2003 and The Great Longing in 2008.
