Pharez Whitted, born on August 26, 1960, in Indianapolis, Indiana, is an American jazz trumpeter and educator. He studied music at DePauw University and earned a master's degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Whitted began his career working with notable artists such as George Duke, Elvin Jones, and Ramsey Lewis. In 1994, he released his debut album MoJazz under Motown Records, followed by Mysterious Cargo in 1996. His subsequent albums include Transient Journey (2010), for which he was nominated for the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards in the Jazz Album category. Whitted has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and collaborated with artists like John Mellencamp and The Temptations. He currently leads a quintet and serves as jazz director of Chicago's Youth Symphony Orchestra, continuing his extensive work in music education.
