Biography

Peter Jacques (born 19 May 1935 in Franzensbad, Czechoslovakia) was a jazz pianist and bandleader. He began playing the piano at four and was smuggled into Switzerland in 1945, where he studied at the Winterthur Conservatory. He turned professional in 1956, performing with Niels Foss, Kurt Weil, and Jörgen Gottlieb, arranging for Harry Arnold’s big band; he also participated in a recording of Toots Thielemans’ jazz hit "Bluesette". In 1975, he released Keyboard Flashes, followed by Swing Is In (1976), Round Trip to Rio (1979) and Michel Legrand, Peter Jacques & Co (1986). He worked for Bavaria Film, hosted shows Jazz in Concert and Jazz‑In, and accompanied singer Marie Louise Werth. Peter Jacques died on 27 March 2025.
