Biography

One of the best blues crooners of all time, Percy Mayfield, whose smooth, misty baritone voice coaxes the listener, enjoyed his heyday between 1949 and 1952 - with hits such as "Please Send Me Someone To Love", "Strange Things Happening", "River's Invitation" - before a car accident disfigured him and damaged his voice. Mayfield then confined himself almost exclusively to writing blues and ballads, particularly for Ray Charles ("Hit The Road, Jack").
