Biography
Paul Reginald Nelson (born May 21, 1955), known professionally as Paul Hyde, was a British-born Canadian singer, songwriter, and visual artist from Harrogate, England. Hyde emigrated to Canada at age 15 and settled in Victoria. In 1978, he co-founded the rock band Payola$ with Bob Rock, releasing the single âChina Boysâ in 1979. Hyde performed on the albums In a Place Like This (1981) and No Stranger to Danger (1982). The latter included the recording âEyes of a Strangerâ, which reached number 4 on the charts and won a Juno Award. Hyde co-wrote the Number 1 charity single âTears Are Not Enoughâ (1985) before beginning a solo career. His solo recordings included Turtle Island (1989), The Big Book of Sad Songs, Volume 1 (2002), and No Gods, Just Men (2018). In 2020, Hyde shifted his creative focus toward visual art, exhibiting his collages in Vancouver.
