Biography

English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist specializing in "blue-eyed soul", Paul Carrack was born in Sheffield on April 22, 1961. A member of the bands Warm Dust, Ace, Squeeze, Roxy Music and Mike + the Mechanics, with whom he scored a number of hits and won recognition from peers and critics alike, he embarked on a solo career in 1980 with the album The Nightbird, accompanying Roger Waters before devoting himself to his own recordings. After a period with the Vertigo, Epic, Chrysalis and Ark 21 labels, he became independent with the album Satisfy My Soul (2000), released under his own Carrack UK label. A regular fixture in the charts in both the UK and the US, he enjoys a loyal following of concert-goers who can hear the hits he's been racking up since the early 1970s. In addition to his pop-rock and soft-rock productions, he also recorded albums of Christmas songs and recordings in which his songwriting remained effective. In addition to the symphonic Different Hat (2010), backed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, his output expanded with the albums Good Feeling (2012), Rain or Shine (2013), Soul Shadows (2016), These Days (2018) and One on One (2021). In 2023, Don't Wait Too Long sees him perform standards with the SWR Big Band jazz orchestra, while The Country Side of Paul Carrack, Vol. 1 is a reinterpretation of his own songs in a genre he's never tackled before.
