Biography

Paul Julian Banks, born on May 3, 1978, in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex (United Kingdom) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and DJ. His family's frequent relocations due to his father's corporate role significantly influenced his early life, moving from England to the U.S., Spain, and Mexico. When he was three years old, his family left England for the United States, where he grown up in Michigan. He then moved to Spain for studies before living in New Jersey, Mexico, and New York. He joined Interpol in 1997, contributing to albums like Turn on the Bright Lights (2002) and Antics (2004). Banks also released solo work under various names, including Julian Plenti Is... Skyscraper (2009) and Banks (2012). He collaborated with RZA as Banks & Steelz, releasing Anything But Words in 2016. In addition to his musical endeavors, Paul Julian Banks has been noted for his baritone singing voice and his involvement in stage productions during his high school years at the American School Foundation in Mexico City. In 2025, he composed the soundtrack for Sister Midnight.
