Biography

Patrick Wolf, real name Patrick Denis Apps, born in London on June 30, 1983, is a British singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Attracted to music from an early age, he began learning the violin and piano as a child, and began recording compositions in his teens, as well as experimenting with electronics via production software. He attended the prestigious Trinity College of Music and developed a highly personal approach to songwriting, part fantasy tale, part introspection. Known for his eclectic, theatrical musical style, blending folk, electro, baroque pop, classical and electronic experimentation, as well as for his flamboyant, queer aesthetic, he released his debut album Lycanthropy in 2003, hailed for its innovative blend of folklore, electronic beats and personal narratives. This was followed by Wind in the Wires (2005), more acoustic and melancholy, then The Magic Position (2007), with its brighter, more pop overtones, which brought him closer to the mainstream. The latter includes collaborations with Marianne Faithfull and a more assertive turn towards orchestral pop. In 2009, he released The Bachelor, a dark, political album, followed in 2011 by Lupercalia, focused on love and inner reconciliation. He then compiled these last two projects in a boxed set entitled The Marriage. After a long break punctuated by concerts and a withdrawal from public life, Patrick Wolf made a discreet but eagerly-awaited comeback with the EP The Night Safari (2023), reviving his rich, poetic sounds in a more intimate, refined vein. His sixth album, Crying the Neck, followed in 2025.
