Biography

Daniel Knox, born September 22, 1980 in Springfield, Illinois, is an American singer-songwriter and composer. He initially pursued film studies at Columbia College Chicago but dropped out to teach himself piano. Knox's breakthrough came in 2007 when he was selected by director David Lynch to perform an original piece on the organ for a screening of Inland Empire. This led to collaborations with notable artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Jarvis Cocker, and Nina Nastasia. His debut album, Disaster, was released in 2007, followed by Evryman For Himself in 2011. Knox's 2018 album, Chasescene, featured collaborations with Jarvis Cocker on "Capitol" and Nina Nastasia on "The Poisoner". He has also written scores for films and theater, including the soundtracks for Half-Heart: Songs from Twin Peaks (2020) and You Are My Friend: The Songs of Mister Rogers (2020). He followed up with albums Won't You Take Me with You (2021), and Mercado 48 (2205).
