Biography
Patrick Donohue, born April 28, 1953 in St. Paul, Minnesota, is an American fingerstyle guitarist. Influenced by blues guitarists and folk singers, he moved to Denver in 1971 to study at Regis College (now Regis University) before transferring to Marquette University. He won the National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship in 1983. Donohue's first album, Manhattan to Memphis, was released by Red House Records in 1985. He started his own label, Bluesky Records, and released several albums including Pat Donohue (1987) and Life Stories (1991). In the early 1990s, he became a member of the house band on the radio program A Prairie Home Companion, appearing in its film adaptation. In 2005, he won a Grammy Award for his participation on Pink Guitar. His songs have been covered by notable artists such as Chet Atkins, Suzy Bogguss, and Kenny Rogers.
