Biography
Born in Spokane, Washington, in 1954, singer and multi-instrumentalist Theo Hakola moved to France in the late 1990s, and in 1980 formed the post-punk band Orchestre Rouge, which produced the albums Yellow Laughter and More Passion Fodder, which gave its name to his new band, formed in 1984 with Pascal Humbert (bass), Lionel Dollet (guitar), Bénédicte Villain (violin) and Nicolas Maga (drums), replaced by Jean-Yves Tola. Drawing their inspiration from cowpunk, fusing country tradition with punk energy, the band, signed to the Barclay label, recorded five critically acclaimed albums, with recognizable sleeves by Argentinian painter Ricardo Mosner. After splitting up in 1992, Humber and Tola joined David Eugene Edwards in 16 Horsepower, while Theo Hakola went solo.
