Biography
Pankow is a German rock ensemble formed in 1981 in East Germany. The group emerged from the backing band of Veronika Fischer and consisted of Jürgen Ehle, André Herzberg, Frank Hille, Rainer Kirchmann, and Jäcki Reznicek. In 1981, the band performed the rock spectacle Paule Panke, which utilized theatrical elements to narrate the life of an apprentice. The ensemble faced censorship and airplay restrictions for recordings such as âLangeweileâ due to political themes. Its discography included the studio recordings Kille Kille (1983), Hans im Glück (1985), and Aufruhr in den Augen (1988). The album Paule Panke appeared in 1989 through Amiga Records. Subsequent releases included the compilations Die Original Amiga-Alben (2004) and In Aufruhr (2011), as well as the studio recording Nur aus Spass (2006). The group became inactive in July 2025 following a final performance in Dresden.
