José Pablo Guerrero Cabanillas, known as Pablo Guerrero, was born on October 18, 1946, in Esparragosa de Lares, Spain. A singer-songwriter and poet from Extremadura, Guerrero began his musical journey at 16 when he received his first guitar. He initially performed with an amateur group. Guerrero's breakthrough came in 1969 when he won first prize for best lyrics at the Benidorm Festival with "Amapolas y Espigas". His early career blended traditional Extremadura harmonies with influences from flamenco, American folk music, rock, and jazz. He released his debut single on the Action label, featuring "Amapolas y Espigas" and "Carro y Camino". In 1972, Guerrero recorded his first LP, A Cántaros, which showcased urban themes. His live album, Pablo Guerrero en el Olympia, was recorded in Paris in March 1975. Over his career, he has released numerous albums including A tapar la calle (1978), Los momentos del agua (1985), Alas, alas (1995), Plata (2005), Catorce rÃos pequeños (2015), and Mundos de andar por casa (2017), earning critical acclaim for his lyrical depth, melodic inventiveness, and commitment to social themes. Throughout his career, Guerrero continued to explore diverse musical styles and published poetry continuously since 1988. Guerrero died in Madrid on September 30, 2025, at the age of 78.
