Kany GarcÃa, born Encarnita GarcÃa de Jesús on September 25, 1982, in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, built her musical foundation in childhood through classical training in cello, theory, and chorus before studying at Escuela Libre de Música and the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico. In 2004 she auditioned for Objetivo Fama, but a serious car accident interrupted that breakthrough; after recovering, she kept writing and performing, shared a stage with Franco De Vita in Puerto Rico, and signed with Sony BMG in 2006. Her debut album, Cualquier DÃa (2007), established her with âHoy Ya Me Voy,â âEsta Soledad,â and âAlguien,â and it brought her early Latin Grammy wins. She followed with Boleto de Entrada (2009) and Kany GarcÃa (2012), while also writing songs recorded by artists including Ednita Nazario, Chayanne, and Jennifer Lopez. In 2016 she reached a new commercial peak with Limonada, her first Number 1 on Billboardâs Top Latin Albums chart, then continued with Soy Yo (2018), Contra el Viento (2019), Mesa para Dos (2020), and El Amor Que Merecemos (2022). By that stage she had become one of the defining singer-songwriters in Latin pop, and Mesa para Dos added another Latin Grammy to her career. In 2024 she released GARCÃA, featuring collaborators such as Christian Nodal, CarÃn León, Carla Morrison, and Young Miko; the album won two Latin Grammys and later earned a Grammy nomination. She opened her next chapter in 2026 with PUERTA ABIERTA, her tenth studio album, and launched the Puerta Abierta Tour 2026.
