Biography

Oran "Juice" Jones was born on November 28, 1957 in Houston, Texas. He is an American R&B and soul singer who is considered a defining figure of urban contemporary R&B in the 1980s. Oran Jones began his first musical activities as a songwriter and singer in the early 1980s. In 1986, his international career began with the solo project Oran "Juice" Jones, which quickly made him famous in the USA. Oran Jones achieved his breakthrough in 1986 with the single "The Rain", which was notable for its spoken-word narrative style. The song reached number 9 in the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 in the US R&B charts and became his biggest success. In the same year, the debut album Juice (1986) was released, which also reached the US charts. The album GTO followed in 1987, from which the single "Cold Spendin' My Money" was released and achieved further chart positions in the R&B sector. In 1989, Oran Jones released To Be Immortal, his third studio album, which continued his musical style between soul, funk and contemporary R&B, but did not build on his earlier successes.
