Maria-Laetitia Mattern may appear to be new to the world of music with ML, but she's been firmly established in it for many years. Leader of the band Sonnfjord, which she formed with her brother Aurelio Mattern (keyboards) and François de Moffarts (bass and vocals), the three members made a name for themselves in Belgium, with dates at the Dour Festival, the Francofolies de Spa and the Brussels Summer Festival. Growing up together in Braine, Maria-Laetitia and Aurelio began playing together at an early age. At first as a hobby, it gradually turned into something serious. Aurelio met François, who grew accustomed to the guitar, and Maria-Laetitia joined them. Sonnfjord was born. While the trio began composing folk-influenced songs, they then drifted towards a more pop/rock style. Their City Lights EP affirmed their music, and the public followed with over a hundred thousand views for the single "Lights". However, while working on new productions for the band, Maria-Laetitia noticed a change in aesthetic form. Her musical desires were evolving and no longer fit within the framework of the trio. The desire arose to go it alone, with her initials, ML. Aurelio and François accompany him in the composition, and then the meeting with Ambroise Willaume (SAGE) is decisive. Together, ML's songwriting evolved into French, and their sound took on a pop immediacy and clear-cut melodies. May 2022 saw the release of Changé, a debut EP on which ML's style developed and won over fans with the single "Nuit Noire" and the eponymous track featuring Flore Benguigui from French group L'Impératrice. In February 2023, "Ressaisis-toi " put the finishing touches to ML's reputation as one of the pop artists to watch, heralding a new EP with influences from Leonard Cohen, Lana Del Rey and Tame Impala.
