Biography
Ollabelle is an American folk music group named after the influential Appalachian songwriter Ola Belle Reed. Formed in 2001 in New York City, the band emerged from Sunday night gospel sessions at a Lower East Side bar called 9C, where five singing multi-instrumentalists combined their musical tastes to play a blend of gospel, traditional folk, blues, bluegrass, and rock. The group released its self-titled debut album, Ollabelle (2004), produced by T-Bone Burnett. The band gained national exposure through a 2004 segment on National Public Radio's All Things Considered and by participating in Alison Krauss' Great High Mountain Tour in 2004. Their second album, Riverside Battle Songs (2006), co-produced with Larry Campbell, was released in 2006. Subsequent releases include the live album Before This Time (2009) and the studio album Neon Blue Bird (2011). The group performed at festivals including the Newport Folk Festival in 2004 and South by Southwest in 2007.
