Biography

Olga Wladimirowna Borodina, born Olga Vladimirovna Borodina in 1963 in Leningrad, is a Russian opera singer known for her mezzo-soprano voice. She studied and graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory under Irina Bogacheva. In 1992, she debuted at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Dalila in Samson et Dalila, alongside Plácido Domingo. Borodina has performed frequently at notable venues including La Scala in Milan and the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, where she started her career. Her extensive repertoire includes roles such as Princess Eboli in Verdi's Don Carlos and Marina Mniszek in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov. Notable recordings include the albums Arias and Portrait (2006), as well as major works by Modest Mussorgsky and Sergei Prokofiev. Borodina won the Francisco Viñas Singing Competition in Barcelona in 1989, received the People's Artist of Russia title in 2002, and won a Grammy Award for Best Classical Album in 2011 for her vocal work in the 2010 recording of Verdi's Messa da Requiem.
