Biography

OAG is one of the first English-language alternative rock bands to enjoy commercial success in Malaysia. Formed in the Malaysian cities of Kuching and Kuala Lumpur, the band was launched in December 1992 by frontman Muhammad Radhi Razali, guitarist Mohd Azrie Hadi aka Ayie, and bassist Lam. OAG was heavily inspired by the 1960s, including bands like The Beatles and The Velvet Underground, and even nodded to the decade with the single "60's TV." Released in 1994 as the first song from the band's debut album, Old Automatic Garage, "60's TV" became a national hit, while the album itself went triple-platinum in Malaysia. OAG appeared on the compilation Boys & Girls 1+1=3 in 1997 and also released an EP, 67, which went gold in three days. Another full-length album, Melody Mocker, was released in 1999 and also went gold. One year later, the band began experimenting with songs in the Malay language, with 2002's Opera Radhi-o Friendly marking OAG's first album to feature songs in multiple languages. The record's lead single, "Slumber," was another local hit. Following the release of Satelit Ink. in 2003, OAG briefly split up, only to reconvene in 2005 with a different lineup. Still led by Muhammad Radhi Razali, the group continued to record new material, releasing albums OrAnG in 2006, Di Bawah Tanah Ayer in 2015, SnowBall in 2017, and Infiniti in 2018. A greatest-hits compilation, The Best Of, followed in 2018, featuring "Biru" and other songs from the band's long career.
