Novak's Kapelle, an Austrian blues rock and garage punk band, was founded in 1967 by Erwin Novak. The group initially consisted of Erwin Novak, Walla Mauritz, Peter Travnicek, and Helge Thor. In the late 1960s, they released their first singles "Hypodermic Needle / Doing That Rhythm Thing" (1968) and "Not Enough Poison / Smile Please" (1969). The band's debut album from 1971 was officially released in 2023 under the name Greatest Hits on Exil Records. In 1971, they performed as headliners at the steirischen Musikfestival Popendorf 71 but were met with controversy, booed by fans, and had to leave the venue prematurely. The band's lineup changed in 1970 when Paul Braunsteiner replaced Helge Thor on guitar. They released the EP Brennmaterial für die 80er Jahre in 1979, shortly before officially disbanding.
