Biography
North Cregg, an Irish traditional band from Cork, formed in 1996 from the city's pub session scene. The group took its name from a tune composed by uilleann piper Jimmy Morrison. North Cregg initially consisted of Christy Leahy on button box, Liam Flannigan on fiddle and banjo, Ciaran Coughlan on piano, Martin Leahy on guitar and drums, and Claire-Anne Lynch as vocalist and fiddler. Their breakthrough came in 2000 when they were voted Best Traditional Newcomers at the Irish Music Magazine Millennium Awards. The band's discography includes ...And they danced all night (1999), Mi.da:za (2001), Summer at My Feet (2003), and The Roseland Barndance (2007). The Roseland Barndance featured guest appearances by Dirk Powell on clawhammer banjo, Chris McCarthy on double bass, and Seamus Burns on spoons. North Cregg has also performed at notable festivals including Glastonbury, Irish Fest in Milwaukee, Tønder Festival in Denmark, and Celtic Connections in Glasgow.
