Nizlopi, a British folk duo formed in 2003 in Leamington Spa, England, consists of Luke Concannon on vocals, guitar, and bodhrán, and John Parker on double bass, human beatbox, and backing vocals. The band members grew up together and attended Trinity Catholic School. Nizlopi began performing throughout England, building a small but loyal fan base. Their first album, Half These Songs Are About You, was released in August 2004 with FDM Records. The duo's breakthrough came with the release of "JCB", a song about Luke Concannon's dyslexia and his experiences accompanying his father to work. Released as a single in June 2005, it reached number 160 on the UK Singles Chart before being re-released in December that year, eventually peaking at Number 1 on 18 December 2005. The song won Nizlopi an Impala Platinum award for sales of over 500,000 copies across Europe in 2007. Their follow-up single, "Girls", was released in April 2006 but did not chart in the UK top 40 due to limited radio play. In September 2006, Nizlopi released The ExtraOrdinary EP, which included six tracks and aimed to capture their live sound. Their second album, Make It Happen, was released on March 31, 2008, featuring guest appearances from notable artists such as Benjamin Zephaniah and Martyn Barker. Nizlopi performed at the Glastonbury Festival in 2005, 2007, and 2008. Despite splitting in February 2010, they continued to reunite for sporadic live shows and charity events.
