Biography
Nils Wülker was born in Bonn on August 17, 1977 and is one of the most important jazz trumpeters and composers in Europe today. He began learning the piano at the age of seven before switching to the trumpet at the age of ten. Nils Wülker discovered his enthusiasm for jazz during an exchange year in the USA, when he was inspired by musicians such as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. His musical breakthrough came with his debut album High Spirits (2002), which was praised by critics. In the following years, he released a series of successful albums, including Safely Falling (2007), Up (2015) and On (2017). His album Up was awarded the German Jazz Award in Gold. in 2022, he released the orchestral masterpiece Continuum, which he recorded together with the Munich Radio Orchestra. Nils Wülker is known for the fusion of jazz, pop and electronic elements in his compositions. His band members often include long-time companions such as Arne Jansen (guitar), Maik Schott (keyboards) and Simon Gattringer (drums). His music is mainly modern jazz with pop and electronic influences. Most recently, he released the album Closer (2023) and the live album In Concert (2024) together with Arne Jansen. Nils Wülker has received numerous awards, including the ECHO Jazz (2013) and several German Jazz Awards for his albums.
