Nicholas David Mrozinski was born on August 14, 1980, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and began piano lessons in second grade before taking voice lessons in tenth grade, developing an early appreciation for classical and jazz. He launched his recording career in 2004 with the self‑produced acoustic album Four Legged Light under his own label, Wake the World, and released four subsequent albums and EPs through 2011, including Say Goodbye, which debuted at number 44 on the Billboard Top 200. In 2012, Nicholas David auditioned for the third season of NBC’s The Voice, joining Cee Lo Green’s team and earning the nickname “St. Nick”; his performance of "You Are So Beautiful" to his pregnant wife became a notable moment on the show. After the series, he returned to Minnesota to record his sixth album and continued touring locally. His compilation The Minnesota Beatle Project received the City Pages award for Best Local Compilation CD.
