Connie Britton, born Constance Elaine Womack on March 6, 1967 in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American actress and television producer best known for her role as Rayna Jaymes in the drama series Nashville. Britton entered the entertainment industry after studying Asian studies with a concentration in Chinese at Dartmouth College, and she appeared in several stage productions before being cast in Nashville in 2012. The series debuted on ABC in October 2012, and Britton's portrayal of the seasoned country singer earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2013. Throughout the show's run, Britton collaborated with various musicians and contributed to the soundtrack releases such as The Music of Nashville: Season 1 Volume 1 (December 11, 2012). The show's success bolstered tourism in Nashville, Tennessee, and its producers secured a partnership with CMT in 2016 after ABC's cancellation. Britton left Nashville during the fifth season in February 2017, but returned for the series finale in July 2018 as a guest star, and her legacy continued through the series' continued streaming availability and related tours.
