Biography

Najat Aâtabou, born in 1960 in Khémisset, Morocco, is a singer, songwriter, and composer known for her work in Moroccan chaabi (Chââbi). Initially dreaming of becoming a lawyer, Aâtabou's career took an unexpected turn when a pirate recording of her voice gained public attention with the song "J'en ai marre" in the early 1980s. This breakthrough led her to sign with Hassania Editions and release her debut album The Voice of the Atlas (1983), which included "J'en ai marre" and sold over three million copies. Aâtabou's music often addresses social issues faced by Moroccan women. Her notable songs include "Hedi Kedba Bayna", which gained international popularity in 1987. She performed at the Olympia de Paris in 1984. Throughout her career, Aâtabou has released over 500 titles.
