The Mystic Moods Orchestra, a US musical group created by audiophile Brad Miller in 1966, was known for blending orchestral pop with environmental sounds and pioneering recording techniques. Born in Burbank, California, Miller's interest in railroading led him to record steam locomotive sounds, which he released through Mobile Fidelity Records. Inspired by a radio stunt mixing these recordings with easy listening music, Miller formed The Mystic Moods Orchestra with arranger Don Ralke. Their debut album, One Stormy Night, was released in 1966 through Philips and featured a string-laden orchestra accompanied by environmental sounds. The group continued to release albums such as Nighttide (1966), More Than Music (1967), and Mystic Moods of Love (1968). Don Ralke wrote most of the material and handled arrangements for these early releases. In 1974, Miller founded Sound Bird Records, reissuing many of their albums. Notable releases during this period include Erogenous (1974) and Awakening (1973). The backing track to "The First Day of Forever" from Awakening was used as the theme song for the American version of the Japanese superhero television show Spectreman. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, their recordings continued to be reissued.
