Biography

Ferrante & Teicher, an American piano duo consisting of Arthur Ferrante and Louis Teicher, met while studying at the Juilliard School of Music in New York and began performing as a piano duo while still students. After graduating, they launched a full-time concert career in 1947. Between 1950 and 1980, Ferrante & Teicher became a major American easy listening act, scoring four significant US hits: "Theme from The Apartment" (pop number 10), "Theme from Exodus" (pop number two), "Tonight" (pop number eight), and "Midnight Cowboy" (pop number 10). They performed and recorded regularly with pops orchestras, popular standards by composers such as George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, and the Sherman Brothers. In 1973, they contributed the theme for the Rod Serling radio drama series The Zero Hour. Ferrante & Teicher called it a day in 1989 and both retired to separate areas in Florida. Louis Teicher died of a heart attack on 3 August 2008 at age 83. Arthur Ferrante passed away from natural causes on 19 September 2009.
