Biography

Mystery is a Canadian neo‑progressive rock group founded in 1986 by multi‑instrumentalist Michel St‑Père in Montreal, Quebec. St‑Père, born 1986, originally worked as a sound engineer before assembling the band, which initially performed under the name Century before adopting the current name after a naming conflict. The first breakthrough came with the 1992 Mystery EP, featuring dual lead vocals from Gary Savoie, which introduced the band’s blend of symphonic and hard‑rock elements. Over the next decade, Mystery released Theatre of the Mind (1996) and Destiny? (1998), both with Gary Savoie on lead vocals, establishing a growing fan base in North America and Europe. In 2007 the lineup changed with Benoît David replacing Savoie, and the album Beneath the Veil of Winter's Face achieved significant airplay on progressive‑rock radio stations. Subsequent releases—One Among the Living (2010), The World Is a Game (2012), Delusion Rain (2015), Lies and Butterflies (2018), and Redemption (2023)—were issued through St‑Père’s Unicorn Digital label and supported by extensive touring, including the 2014 Tales From the Netherlands live album and the 2019 Live in Poznan recording. The compilation More than Just a Game was released in 2025, celebrating a decade of the Delusion Rain era.
