Biography

Mulamba, an all-female Brazilian band from Curitiba, was formed in December 2015 by women from various parts of Brazil. Initially a tribute act to Cássia Eller, the group chose their name to re-signify the word "mulamba," stripping it of its pejorative connotations and emphasizing force and leadership. Mulamba gained traction after winning a slot at Vento Festival in São Sebastião through popular vote, leading to the release of their self-titled debut album in November 2018. The album featured collaborations with Juliana Strassacapa and Lio Soares and included the notable song "P.U.T.A.". In April 2019, they announced a new song, "Dandara", addressing violence against transvestites and homosexuals. Mulamba's second album, Será Só aos Ares, was released in 2022, featuring artists such as Luedji Luna and BNegão. The band disbanded in May 2023, citing the need for rest and new beginnings.
