Moxy Fruvous, a politically satirical folk-pop band from Thornhill, Ontario, Canada, was formed in 1989 by Jian Ghomeshi, Murray Foster, Mike Ford, and David Matheson. The group gained attention busking in Toronto. Their breakthrough came when CBC Radio commissioned songs for the radio show Later the Same Day, leading to a self-titled demo tape in 1992 that sold over 50,000 units and was certified Gold in Canada. The band's first major-label album, Bargainville (1993), achieved Platinum status. Notable songs include "The Gulf War Song" and "My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors". In 1997, their song "You Will Go to the Moon" was used by NASA to wake the crew of STS-85. The band released several albums, including Wood (1995), The 'B' Album (1996), and Thornhill (1999). Moxy Fruvous disbanded in 2001 after a final concert.
